The KNIT SAFARI Mega Cable Sweater is designed to be the ultimate chunky turtleneck sweater, with some fun cables travelling down the sleeves. Pair it with leggings and chunky fluffy knitted socks for a night in front of the TV, or throw on a jacket and some boots to do some walkin'.

The Mega Cable Sweater is a handknitted cable sleeve jumper, with oversized shaping and a big turtleneck. Constructed seamlessly in the round bottom-up, from the hem to the underarms, the sleeves are worked seamlesssly and seamed in. Not a fan of a big roll neck? Not a problem! The pattern includes instructions for modifying the collar into a short round neckline, for a chunky knit sweater just the way you like it.

FIT: Oversized fit, with 4-10" of positive ease. You may wish to knit a smaller size for a closer fit.

SIZES: Small (to fit bust 32-34”), Medium (to fit bust 36-38") and Large (to fit bust 40-42”)

YARN: 9 (10, 11) balls of Cygnet Yarns Seriously Chunky yarn, or an equivalent Super Bulky yarn with 5-6 wpi (yarn estimates are approximate)

TOOLS:

  • 12mm and 15mm circular knitting needles, with a cable 100-150 cm long (depending on the size you are making)
  • Stitch markers
  • Stitch holders or scrap yarn
  • Yarn sewing needle 

TECHNIQUES:

  • Casting on (I like the Long Tail Cast On technique)
  • 1x1 Rib Stitch
  • Knitting flat and in the round
  • Knitting cables (with or without a cable needle)
  • Increasing stitches
  • Decreasing stitches
  • Seaming pieces together using an invisible seaming technique
  • Pick up and knit stitches
  • Casting off
